“PKM is a reasonably priced concentrate that we use mainly in the Spring and Autumn to hold or increase cow body weight. PKM’s best feature is that it’s a very safe feed. It is almost impossible for cows to over indulge on PKM which allows it to be fed at high rates or even ad-lib. We have fed it to our replacement heifers ad-lib when lack of rain prevented us from supplying them enough protein from pasture alone. We have had problems feeding PKM through our in shed feed system as it does not flow. However, Richard Erwood from Dynes Stockfood has solved this for us by supplying a 50:50 mix of Broll and PKM which flows from our silo into the feed system with no problems. This has provided us with a very competitively priced option when compared to grain.”
